A bit about the Kelly Huts family
Kelly Huts was inspired in 2017 by two families starting their Chapter Two.
When Nigel Kelly and Deb Mayo started their new life together, they needed to provide accommodation for two German Shepherds, a number of fish, a cat and a blended family of 8.
Faced with the problem of being able to afford a home for all created some immediate challenges in the Auckland market. “We always new we could not afford to buy a house with 5-6 bedrooms, so we needed to get creative”
A four bedroom house was purchased on a large site in Waimauku. A couple of children were “racked and stacked” in bunks, and another two used the formal lounge for some months until “Molly” the 1966 Silver Mist caravan was purchased whilst the flagship Kelly Hut was designed.
Having gone to the market in search of a quality, well made sleepout for our girls, nothing ticked the boxes. Creative minds got into gear and created The Kelly Hut – a warm, private space for the girls that integrated into the back yard perfectly. Clever design by Jose Antonio an architectural student from Mexico delivered a very functional and fun space.
Now, a small four bedroom house does not provide for those who work from home hence our Home Office was designed to solve the problem. Neither building require building consent as under 10sqm yet solved our accommodation and working from home challenges. Thus, Kelly Huts was born.
